Cherry Wood
Cherrywood
(Irish: Coill na Silíní) is a planned new suburb of Dublin, withhin the broad
Loughlinstown area, and bordering Rathmichael. It is located to the south east
of the city, in the administrative county of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown. In 2012,
it is partly developed and many remaining planned developments will not proceed
at this time. The development primarily comprises Cherrywood Business Park,
with modest residential development. In 1998 the first office-building was
developed in the Cherrywood Business Park but development proceeded slowly. As
at May 2012 several of the buildings are still empty while other developments
were never completed and there are also broad areas without any building
activities. In total the area is around 400 acres. As with many planned
developments in Ireland, the crash of the economy in 2008 also affected this
development: groundwork had started on the new national headquarters for Royal
Bank of Scotland and other office blocks but building is halted since the
collapse of the property market and some other (nearly) completed blocks remain
empty.
