Railway Sleepers For Sale

Railway sleepers or ties are blocks of timber used as foundations for railroad tracks. These sleepers are laid transversely with the rails, on which the rails are fixed. Railway sleepers are mostly made of wood, although concrete, steel, stone or plastic are also used for making them. Interestingly, plastic sleepers are made from recycled plastic materials. These ties are known to last longer than the classic wooden ties, the reason being, they are impervious to environmental stress and have properties similar to their wooden counterparts when it comes to damping impact loads, lateral stability, and sound absorption. With better economy, concrete sleepers are becoming popular today. Wooden sleepers are usually made from hardwoods (especially teak) that are treated with preservatives and Creosote. Railroads in modern times are being widely used for landscaping and garden construction. Railway sleepers made from new oak beams are used for garden construction in the U.K. When used in gardens, sleepers are not treated with heavy chemicals and preservatives.
